Royals Fall 6-2 in Series Opener at Yankee Stadium

Kansas City’s Four-Game Winning Streak Ends in New York

The Kansas City Royals had their four-game winning streak snapped on Monday night, falling 6-2 to the New York Yankees in the opener of a four-game series at Yankee Stadium.

The Yankees jumped out to an early lead, scoring two runs off Royals’ starter Brad Keller in the first inning. Gleyber Torres drove in the first run with a double, and Aaron Judge followed with an RBI single.

The Royals cut the lead to 2-1 in the third inning on a solo home run by Hunter Dozier, but the Yankees answered back with two more runs in the bottom of the inning off Keller.

The Yankees added two more runs in the fifth inning off Royals’ reliever Jake Brentz to extend their lead to 6-1.

The Royals got one run back in the seventh inning on an RBI single by Nicky Lopez, but that was all they could muster against the Yankees’ bullpen.

Keller (3-4) took the loss for the Royals, allowing six runs on nine hits in 4 1/3 innings. Lucas Luetge (2-1) got the win for the Yankees, allowing one run on two hits in 2 2/3 innings.

The Royals will look to avoid a series sweep when they face the Yankees again on Tuesday night at Yankee Stadium. Daniel Lynch will start for the Royals, while Domingo Germán will start for the Yankees.
