Convicted of Six Murders, Suspected in Many More

Pickton was known as the "Pig Farmer Killer" or the "Butcher"

Robert William Pickton, a Canadian serial killer and pig farmer, died on May 31, 2024, at the age of 74. He was serving a life sentence at Port-Cartier Institution in Canada's Quebec province after being convicted of six counts of second-degree murder.

Pickton was suspected of killing at least 65 women who disappeared from Vancouver's Downtown Eastside between 1978 and 2001. He earned the nicknames "Pig Farmer Killer" and the "Butcher" because he disposed of his victims' bodies on his pig farm in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia.

Pickton's arrest in 2002 shocked the community. Police found the remains of several women on his property, and DNA evidence linked him to many more disappearances. He was convicted in 2007, and his sentence was upheld on appeal in 2010.
