Sainz Woke Up with Neck Injury at Baku GP
McLaren's Carlos Sainz has revealed that he woke up with a neck injury following the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
The Spaniard crashed out of the race on the opening lap after being hit from behind by Pierre Gasly's Toro Rosso.
Sainz was taken to the medical center for precautionary checks and later released, but he said he woke up on Sunday morning with a sore neck.
"I just woke up with a bit of a stiff neck," Sainz said. "It's a bit sore, but it's nothing too serious. I'll just have to take it easy for a few days and see how it goes."
Sainz said he was "gutted" to have crashed out of the race, but he was grateful to have escaped serious injury.
"It was a big shunt, so I'm just lucky to be okay," he said. "I'm just disappointed that I couldn't continue the race, but that's racing."
Sainz's crash was one of several on the opening lap of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. The race was red-flagged for more than an hour while the track was cleared.
The race was eventually won by Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes. Sainz's McLaren teammate, Lando Norris, finished fifth.
